Amousement is the alias of Marcello Ruggiu, Ableton Certified Trainer and London-based electronic music producer and educator. His work blends jungle, drum & bass, ambient and braindance, with a strong focus on experimental sound design and rhythmic complexity.
Amousement is the moniker of Marcello Ruggiu, an Italian-born, London-based electronic music producer, sound engineer, and Ableton Certified Trainer.
Active in music since the mid-90s, Marcello began his career as a drummer before transitioning into electronic production and earning a degree in audio engineering. He has been teaching since 2009, delivering courses and workshops for some of the most respected institutions in the UK, including Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, Abbey Road Institute, Point Blank Music School, and Garnish Music Production School.
Under the name Amousement, his work blends jungle, drum & bass, ambient textures, and braindance with elements of breakcore and experimental electronic music. His productions are characterised by intricate rhythms, detailed sound design, and a strong emphasis on low-end and percussive textures. He has released music on various underground labels and collaborated with a wide network of electronic artists across Europe.
Alongside his studio work, Marcello has built a long-standing presence in the live electronic scene. He has performed at festivals and events across the UK and Europe, including appearances connected to Glastonbury Festival and WOMAD, and has been involved in audiovisual performances and experimental live setups.
He is also a core member of the CRUX AV collective, contributing since its early stages by curating and performing at events focused on cutting-edge live electronic and audiovisual art. Over the past decade, Amousement has been a regular presence in underground rave culture, delivering breakcore-oriented DJ sets and hybrid live performances.
Beyond music, Marcello works as a freelance sound designer and technician across live events, studio production, and media, and has expanded his practice into visual performance and programming, bridging audio and visual art in immersive live contexts.
His approach combines technical expertise with a highly experimental mindset, focusing on pushing the boundaries of performance, sound design, and creative workflows using tools like Ableton Live, MIDI systems, and custom setups.
